When will designs for the independent living homes be set?

We are soliciting design preferences from potential residents and will work with architects to incorporate local preferences and “universal design” for the safest and most comfortable senior living, even for those with disabilities.  We aim to keep the carbon foot print low and treat the land respectfully.  The final plans will be available to people

What about nursing student involvement in Life Care Humboldt?

We hope to follow the model of some life plan communities by offering nursing and social work students the opportunity to interact with healthy older adults.  The students will not be providing medical care, but could perform health screenings or assist with care coordination under the direction of faculty.

What transportation will be available to residents?

Although specifics are hard to predict, we expect to provide transportation locally for medical care, cultural events, outings such as hikes, museums and community social events. We can work with local government to assure links with public transportation.  Some life plan communities have contracts with Uber or Lyft so that residents can easily shop or

What about over-night visitors?

Residents in independent living may have short-term guests. Unoccupied residences can be offered to visitors.  We plan a kitchen area for residents to use for entertaining visitors. We hope to include a 4-bedroom Air B&B-type home where families and visitors could stay with priority booking for Life Care Humboldt residents.

Will I have a patio and personal garden space?

Independent units will have patios or balconies so residents can enjoy the outdoors.  The garden space immediately surrounding independent cottages can be tended by residents or by the Life Care Humboldt grounds keepers.  If we are able to secure land for a farm-garden, residents will be able to participate in that too.

What amenities will be available on campus?

We plan to have attractive landscaping and a productive garden area as well as walking/biking paths linking residents to community services.  There will be exercise facilities with activity leaders, studio space for arts and crafts and space for music performance.  Inclusion of other amenities depends on what we hear from future residents but could include
